Who discoverd the planets:

Moving on i decided to look further into who discovered the planets to see if i could find definitive names for each of the planets, what i had found previously was then backed up by further research. Many of the close planets are visible to the human eye since the beginning of time.

Who discovered Mercury?

Humans have known Mercury since time immemorial as it is one of the five planets visible through a naked eye. So it is not possible to give credit to a single person for discovering it but it was first identified as a planet by Copernicus when he developed his model of the solar system showing that the Sun was the center of the solar system. The discovery was later confirmed by Galileo with the help of his rudimentary telescope.

Who discovered Venus?

Venus, with almost the same size as that of the Earth, is visible through naked eye. Man has been seeing it since time immemorial but the ancients believed it two be two different stars as it rose with the sun and also set in the evening with the sun, being closest to it. Pythagoras was the first person to find that it was a single star. Pythagoras however thought that that it revolved round the Earth. He was corrected later by Copernicus who showed Sun to be the center of the Solar system and Venus as a planet. His findings were confirmed by Galileo, who, in 1610, with his telescope found that Venus was a planet which orbited around the Sun

Who discovered Saturn?

Saturn has always been visible to ancient humans hence it is difficult to name the person who discovered it. It was Galileo who took a look at the Saturn with his rudimentary telescope. He also discovered its moon, Titan. He thought the planet to be of a strange oval shape. The mystery was later solved when the rings around the Saturn were discovered. Later observations by Giovanni Cassini revealed 4 more moons of the Saturn.

Who discovered that the earth orbits the sun?

Earth is a fifth biggest planet of our solar system. Italian physicist and astronomer, Galileo Galilei discovered the theory that earth orbits or moves around the sun. He discovered this concept by using his telescope. He was born on Feb 15, 1564 in Italy. He was known as the father of modern observational astronomy. His great works are accurate astronomical observations and telescope’s improvements.

Who discovered Uranus?

Uranus is the seventh planet of our solar system. It was discovered on March 13, 1781 by Sir William Herschel, a British astronomer. He was born in Germany. He observed Uranus with his telescope and predicted the existence of Uranus.

Who discovered Neptune?

Neptune is considered as the eighth and last planet of our solar system. It was discovered on Sep 23, 1846. Neptune was the first mathematical prediction. It was a hard work of three people together,  Urbain Le Verrier, a French mathematician, Johann Galle, a German astronomer and John Couch Adams, a British mathematician. However, John Adams  predicted the existence and position of Neptune whereas Johann Gall used the calculations of Urbain Le Verrier to know where to look.

Who discovered Pluto?

Pluto a dwarf planet was discovered by Clyde William Tombaugh, a famous American astronomer. It was discovered on 18, February 1930. It is considered the ninth planet of our solar system near Neptune and Uranus.
